The iPhone 5 already has an 8-megapixel iSight camera at the back
(courtesy of Sony) and the iPhone 5S is rumored to have a 13-megapixel
camera according to rumors. There is a solid reason why Apple prefers
Sony for its cameras – they produce the best CMOS sensors in the market.
There are rumors that lens camera accessories are being produced by
Sony’s engineers. They’ll attach with Android phones and iPhone,
providing a standalone Carl Zeiss optics based sensor – the same that
Nikon 1 uses.
When paired with a dedicated app from Sony, the solution is going to
allow photo snappers three times more resolution of the iPhone 5 (18 to
20 mega-pixels).
The rumor was first spotted by SonyAlphaRumors back in July, but it has been backed by screenshots of the Lens Cameras accessories.
In attaches perfectly well. The accessory packs form Sony also feature a
Bionz processing chip and lenses of high quality. There may also be
built-in Wi-Fi and an SD card slot for memory card and wireless image
transfer.
According to SonyAlphaRumors, Sony is preparing two models – DSC-QX100 and DSC-QX10 lenses.
The latter is expected to be an 18-meapixel CMOS sensor with 10x zoom –
the same sensor as lens as on Sony Cyber-shot WX150 camera costing $400.
The other one will feature a one-inch Exmor R sensor 20.2 mega-pixel
with Carl Zeiss lens of 2/1.8. It’s the same sensor lens as on RX100 –
one of the most praised compact cameras from Sony.
The “Lens-camera” with RX100MII sensor and Zeiss lens. On the pictures it is the bigger lens. As you know the RX100 is the most praised high end compact camera and features a large 1 inch sensor which is the same used by the Nikon 1 system. Now you can have that kind of Image Quality on your iPhone or Android Smartphone!
This one is expected to be above $500.
These lenses and hardware are surely going to appeal to photo
enthusiast, video makers and creative heads, but may not be for normal
users. We just hope they don’t end up being expensive then digital
cameras. What are your thoughts?
